How to get there
Note: the US State Department has a Level 4 Travel Advisory in place for Somaliland ("do not travel," and Canada also has an "avoid all travel" warning. The UK "advises against all travel."
Hargeisa is served by several international carriers, including Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa and Fly Dubai from Dubai, and Maersk from Djibouti.
What do to once there
The livestock market in particular and the experience of shopping more generally stand at the head the list of things to do in Hargeisa. Visits to the War Memorial and the Independence Monument are also commonplace. Visiting a mosque also provides a window into Somaliland society. There is a small history museum, the Saryan Museum, on the west end of the downtown core.

Accommodations
The Damal Hotel is centrally located; has large, nicely-appointed rooms; and features a friendly, English-speaking staff. There is also the popular Ambassador Hotel near the airport, but this is a considerable distance from the major sites.
